Client’s Issues
The client had a trouble with defective products caused by the seating failure of the engine part when cutting the part by CNC machining center.
Cutting chips can become stuck between the workpiece and the jig, causing the workpiece to float up.
Minor uplifts of 10µm can majorly affect machining accuracy.
We received an inquiry looking for a sensor that can detect the seating of the workpiece in micron level after sales representative visited him for PR.
The main focus of the issues
A 10µm workpiece uplift should be detected in the machining process.
Metrol’s suggestions
Metrol’s “Air Gap Sensor Short Range Detection Type” is non-contact type pneumatic sensor that demonstrates 0.5µm repeatability.
It can detect a 10µm gap between the jig and the workpiece caused by cutting chips with 0.5µm repeatability prevent defective products by stop machining automatically.
In addition, the sensor is resistant to harsh working conditions by IP67 protecive structure and enables the installation inside the CNC machine tools where cutting chips or coolant splatter.
Shortened air piping improves response speed and increases productivity.
